Hiking Safety
For hiking safety, its always a good idea to bring along a first aid kit when out on the trail. You never know when you might need one, even for just a minor scratch.
Taking a first responder or other such course is also a great idea. They do not take long and many communities offer them. The Red Cross provides such courses. Even have the children aware of what is in the emergency kit.
You can purchase a standard emergency kit (check out the link below) or pack one of your own. Most kits have most of the following items:
1. Soap
2. Latex gloves
3. Sterile gauze pads
4. Sunscreen
5. Non-prescription drugs
6. Scissors
7. Tweezers
8. Needle
9. Antiseptic
10. Thermometer
11. Tongue depressor
12. Roller bandages
13. Petroleum jelly
14. Tape
This is a suggested list only and you will need to be the judge about what you should take with you.
Hiking and camping are great activities. Don’t let an outing turn bad because of poor planning. Be prepared and have fun out there.
